Guimet - National Museum of Asian Arts
First established in Lyon in 1879, before moving to Paris in 1889, the Guimet National Museum of Asian Arts was completely renovated by architect Henri Gaudin. Emile Guimet (1836-1918), the founding father, initially wanted to display works illustrating the world's major religions. Then, through scientific expeditions, missions and donations (Paul Pelliot, Jacques Bacot, Louis Delaporte, Alfred Foucher, Lionel Fournier, etc.), the museum enriched its collections and in 1945, with Georges Salles, it received its definitive vocation as a museum entirely devoted to Asian arts. The photographic agency offers a collection of 11,500 images, which is constantly being expanded, to illustrate the arts and civilisations of Asia.
